The Smoothie Guys Awesome Smoothie of the Day

John Braumann is a passionate vegan that treats himself to at least one green smoothie a day. He started his popular “The Smoothie Guys Awesome Smoothie of the Day” page on Facebook to share his smoothies with the world one day at a time. John is always on the move and active with yoga, spinning, running, weight training, racquetball, and biking. As today’s guest blogger he shares why smoothies are nutritious for Baby Boomers and just about everyone!

Baby Boomers are aging and many are suffering from the effects of the Standard American Diet. In my opinion, many people are victims of the fast food lifestyle and because of their poor diet decisions, the “health seeker” market is growing more than ever.

I am very fortunate to be in a position to reach people who are looking for an easy way to begin their journey. I am helping people take simple and effective steps towards better health. As “The Smoothie Guy” on Facebook, I promote what I call a “gateway health product”. Green smoothies increase healthy whole food intake and increase dark leafy green consumption, which has innumerable benefits. Once people see and feel the benefits, they often start examining other areas of their diet and make additional changes as well. Just as important, many are inspired to be more active!

I started adding Garden of Life’s Raw Protein to my green smoothies when I realized I was taking longer to recuperate from intense workouts. I could tell I had more energy to workout the next day and began recovering more like I did when I was considerably younger. I think it really helps!

I began posting my smoothies on The Smoothie Guy’s Awesome Smoothie of the Day on Facebook in April of 2010 and have used Raw Protein ever since. Today's Green Smoothie:

  • 3 cup baby spinach
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 golden delicious apple
  • 2 mangos
  • 10 strawberries
  • ice
  • 1 serving Raw Protein
  • Blend well. Yields 32-44oz. that you can drink throughout the day

Enjoyed reading the well-written article that gives one a lot to think about. I check out the "Daily Smoothie" and they are enticing. By listening to John, and sharing his smoothies, I am slowly changing a lot of my eating habits. I have yet to become a vegan, but will work towards that point.

I enjoy my "greens" every day, and like to take a two-mile walk each day. I have yet to try the Garden of Life Protein in my diet, but am sure it would be an asset to my well-being.

I take 2 RAW b-12 every morning with my fresh veggie & fruit juice (I have a juicer and I alternated juice recipes). This gives me the energy I need to get my day started.

Each day between 10:30-11:30 I drink a smoothie made with the RAW protein powder, soy milk, and frozen mixed fruit. Doing this curves my appetite until lunch. By the time lunch times comes around, I'm not so hungry resulting in me eating less. Perfect for weight management

I also take 2 of the the RAW One for Women every night before bed.

This is my daily regiment and it is working for me. I love Garden of Life products. All the products I currently use have the probiotics in them, which I need for my digestive system. I have noticed a great difference. I can eat food, fruits and veggies that I used to stay away from in the past.
