I can't believe 2012 is almost done, and what a year it was!! I had the honour to compete for the very first time at the Canadian Nationals. It was an amazing experience but the journey to get there was indeed a tough one.
For those who are not familiar with the pre competition process, let me tell you it takes a special type of determination. One might think that it's the exercise that is the rough part but the truth is you need to have an EXTRA strong mind.
For me the weight training is great and the fun part. I have always had a love for my IRON ;) I have been lifting weights since I was in my late teens.
For nationals by pre comp diet lasted 20weeks ..yup 5 months of strict diet. That is where the strong mind must come in. If you start thinking, "Oh no-5 months of dieting," you will lose it. The key is to take it day by day. If you do it this way your mind will not go into panic mode...and trust me if can go into PANIC mode.
Once one week goes by and then another and another...you are so ecstatic with the changes in your body that you even start telling yourself "ONLY 14 weeks to go" ( or 12or 11).
You see, it's all in the mind.
Don't get me wrong-the closer you get to that stage your body( muscles etc) does get very tired. All you really want to do is eat, train, eat, cardio, eat and sleep. Actually you mostly want to nap whenever possible which is hard when you have a full time job, a child, are studying for a certification and helping others achieve their fitness goals. The way I see it, anything is possible when you have passion, drive and a dream.
My Off Season training looks a lot like my pre comp with the exception that I eat more, try to lift heavier and do very little or no cardio. This is where we figure competitors make the gains we need. I hit the gym 4 to 5 times a week and maybe take a total of 3 weeks off the entire year.
Its so important to me to have support from my family and friends, which they do wholeheartedly. I am so grateful for all of them and consider myself extra special because I have the amazing support of a company I truly believe in and love. Garden of Life has been with me for close to 2 years now. I could not do what I do without them. Being a plant fed athlete is not easy in my chosen sport but with their products it makes my journey an easier one and healthier one.

Raw Protein is in my daily regimen all year round. It is by far the best protein out there for me. Not only does it taste great it has NO fillers and added super foods and vitamins-much needed during my gruelling pre comp. Getting buff and lean is important but keeping my health is the most important. I am lucky to have access to many of their products..from their vitamins, vegan DHA oil, B12's and so on.
Words cannot express my gratitude for all they do for me and for always believing in me. 2013 is just around the corner and I have big goals for this year! First competition will be in June and if all goes well...Nationals here I come again!!!
