The Best Time To Do Cardio

Posted by: Garden of Life on Wednesday, December 05, 2012

My clients (and strangers alike) often ask me if it’s really better to do cardio first thing in the morning. There is no right or wrong time to do cardio, but doing it first thing in the morning has it benefits. Some studies have suggested that your morning run or spin class can help you burn fat at an accelerated rate long after your workout is complete. How is this possible? It’s simple, our levels of liver and muscle glycogen (the carbohydrates your body stores) are low making it the perfect environment for your body to burn fat, rather than carbohydrates.

Aside from the fat burning benefits of doing cardio first thing in the morning, think about the mental and physiologically benefits. I don’t know many people that walk away from a workout feeling angry or upset that they worked out. Still not convinced?? Let me put it in to terms that some of you work-a-holics can understand... When life and work take over, it becomes easy to put our health on the back burner and promise ourselves that we’ll do it tomorrow. Then tomorrow never comes.

The next time you’re tempted to hit the snooze button, hop out of bed and head to the gym instead.

Regarding your comments about jumping out of bed to go do cardio - there are medical reports suggesting that morning is the most likely time for a heart attack to occur, due to the body being dehydrated and other factors. i can see your point about the other positives though. Hard to know what to really believe these days.

Best time for cardio is morning because morning time our stomach is empty that is good for health. I also like to do cardio in the morning.
