Boredom Buster: Change Your Playlist, Change Your Workout

Posted by: Garden of Life on Friday, December 14, 2012

If you’re anything like me, you get bored with the same workouts... especially when it comes to cardio! I will readily admit that getting on any piece of equipment for even as little as 30 minutes of steady-state cardio is shear torture. We’re talking nails-on-a-chalkboard kind of torture! However, as a fitness professional I know and understand the importance of continually improving and maintaining good cardiovascular health. The immediate and long-term benefits far outweigh my lack of interest and short attention span.

I don’t know about you, but a good playlist is essential. Jay-Z, Run DMC, Aerosmith and Beyonce have gotten me through many tough workouts and I thank them immensely. I have my go-to songs that seem to appear on every playlist no matter what. But let’s be honest.... having the same songs play OVER AND OVER AND OVER in your ear each day is as exciting as watching paint dry. A dull playlist isn’t going to inspire you to train longer or harder. It’s going to have you plateau and head home early.

Like my workouts, I get REALLY excited to change up my playlist because it give me an opportunity to break up the monotony. That simple change makes a world of difference! And when no one is looking, I bust out a dance move or two!! Here is the playlist that I’ve been rocking out to this week:

The Fighter                              Gym Class Heros

Bad                                          Michael Jackson

Some Nights                            Fun

Countdown                              Beyonce

Drop It Low                             Ester Dean

It’s Tricky                                Run DMC

Welcome to the Jungle             Guns N’ Roses

Baby Got Back                                    Sir Mix A Lot

Don’t Wake Me Up                 Chris Brown

Walk This Way                                    Aerosmith
