Green Smoothie Day

Posted by: Ursula Zamora on Monday, January 21, 2013

Seven years ago, Richard Wygand was totally unfit and 100 pounds overweight. He decided to change his life completely, so he purchased a triathalon bike in 2004. After his first race, a Half-Ironman, he began studying exercise science and training. Richard became a professional athlete in 2006, when he raced IM Florida for the first time and was the first professional athlete do to an Ironman almost barefoot, using the Vibram FiveFingers®.

The ten-time Ironman is working toward his goal to finish an Ironman below nine hours and to qualify for the annual Ironman World Championship in Hawaii. He typically trains about 30 hours per week and follows a 100% raw vegan diet. As today’s featured guest blogger, he shares his recipe for the “perfect” green smoothie!

Green Smoothie Day

Since I have been training like crazy, I decided to do a green smoothie day and had four green smoothies as meals! I’m a big fan of green juices and smoothies because they help to make blood sugar stable. The result was amazing. I had a lot of energy during the day and in late afternoon I had the best long run of my life! It was really good! I must say, this idea was from Jennifer Thompson from the healthybliss.net after we did the Iris exam. So here is what I did:

Morning

  • Hand full of spinach
  • Grapefruit juice (2)
  • 1 Banana
  • 1 scoop of the Garden of Life Raw Meal

Lunch:

  • Green grapes (hand full)
  • Hand full of spinach
  • Hand full of collard greens
  • 1/2 of small papaya
  • 1 scoop of Garden of Life Perfect Food Raw

Snack:

  • 1 cucumber (Juice)
  • 3 celery juice
  • 1 apple
  • mixed with one hand full of spinach

Dinner after run:

  • 5 celery juice
  • 2 apples

Feel Good and Go RAW!
