Garden of Life Sponsored Triathlete Kenny Steil Wins Marquee Triathlon

Posted by: Ursula Zamora on Friday, June 01, 2012

Vegan triathlete Kenny Steil competed in the Marquee Triathalon in Tempe, Arizona on April 15, 2012 for his first competition of the 2012 season. Participating in the sprint portion of the three-event day, Kenny captured first place in the Men’s 25-29 age division.

The shortest and fastest of all the races that day, the sprint race is touted as a way to “get your heart pumping and give beginners a teaser for longer events in the future.” The swim course was a 750 meter swim around Tempe Town Lake, the bike course was a half loop of the bicycle track and the run was a loop around the lake itself.

The Marquee Triathalon is part of Kenny's training regimen for the Ironman St. George in Utah on May 5, 2012. He is one of several sponsored Garden of Life athletes who receive nutritional supplements in exchange for product promotion.

When he’s not busy competing, the 27-year-old athlete resides in Scottsdale, Arizona, where he likes to prepare vegan meals with his wife, Jenny. He’s also studying biochemistry, teaching nutrition courses, and enjoys speaking to kids about how to live a healthy lifestyle through diet and exercise.

Congrats GOL on the new blog! It looks great! What an inspiring story. I'm definitely going to share this with my husband. I think it's wonderful to hear success stories such as this about athletes who compete being fueled by a plant based diet. It shows that you definitely can win and perform well if not better. Great story! I look forward to reading and sharing more stories like this.
