How To Stay Healthy On Vacation with Sponsored Athlete Claudia Lailhacar

Posted by: Garden of Life on Wednesday, March 20, 2013

It's that time again for my family and I-getting on a plane in search for some sun away from the cold Vancouver winter.

I often get asked how I eat right while I am away from home.  The truth is I work too hard all year round to ruin my progress in a week or two. Don't get me wrong-I definitely DO indulge a bit here and there (it is a vacation!) and life is too short. I always make sure to load up on veggies.  If you are in a different country or area, why not try fruit or veggies that are local and may be new to you. I love visiting local farmers markets to see what is available.

Eating out does not have to be a stressful situation.  If I decide to eat out, I ask for vegan options.  Chances are they will just be vegetarian so I ask them to modify to meet my needs. Don't be afraid to ask for less oil, to grill instead of fry, etc.

As a plant based athlete it's even harder at times especially when I am traveling in pre competition mode. I need to make sure I get in my healthy fats, complex carbs and protein. Unfortunately tofu or Sietan are not available everywhere I go. How do I avoid the stress? I always pack my Raw Protein from Garden of Life-it's my life (muscle) saver!! My tubs are as well travelled as I am!

I always make sure to get exercise in somewhere in my day while traveling.  Whether you hit the local gym, walk/run on the beach, or take part in walking tours-there’s no better way to discover your surroundings while getting some exercise in!  Just find some fun way to get outdoors and don’t forget to pack some healthy snacks-pre planning always helps in keeping it clean and healthy.

Happy Traveling!
