Garden of Life Employees Run For the Cookies!

Posted by: Ursula Zamora on Friday, April 12, 2013

On Saturday April 6, 2013 Garden of Life staffers Mandi and Amanda took part in the Girl Scouts of  Southeast Florida Thin Mint Spring 5K at Okeeheelee Nature Center in Palm Beach County, FL which was also sponsored by Garden of Life. Okeeheelee Nature Center is a beautiful nature preserve filled with just under 3 miles of paved trails, wooded flatlands and wetlands.

Both Mandi and Amanda are first time 5k runners and said for their first race the experience was great and they made sure to fuel up pre-race with some RAW Protein. Everyone they met was really nice and there were a lot of families running together. The day was beautiful–albeit a little chilly-but the runners warmed up as they ran.

The ladies started in the back of the pack, which was part of the learning curve because it takes a while and is really difficult to break through the crowd when it starts. “Once I was finally able to get past the crowd jumble,” Mandi said, ”I learned I have an innate desire to pass people! Having people in front of me really pushed me to pass them. I wore my GPS watch that tracked my miles per minute, so I noticed I was running at a minute faster per mile than I normally do without feeling winded or like I was putting in a lot of effort!"

Amanda said, “I am not a runner but the feeling of accomplishment was so nice! I loved running behind people who were wearing their t-shirts with the big GOL name printed on the back. I am actually inspired to run another 5k which SHOCKS me!!”

Runners received water and cookies at the finish line (Thin Mints of course!) but Mandi and Amanda passed on them and grabbed some RAW Protein instead. Mandi came in 4th in her age group and Amanda came in 10th in her age group.

Congratulations on your first 5K ladies and thank you for representing Garden of Life so well!
