Garden of Lifer's Roots Run Deep As He Helps in Haiti

Posted by: Garden of Life on Wednesday, June 05, 2013

Thanks to Garden of Life, I was given the opportunity to travel to my home country of Haiti recently to assist in various outreach programs in many suffering villages within the region.  What an experience it was to learn more about my roots first hand. Haitians are such a resilient people-strong and determined to survive by any means necessary. This experience was such a privilege!

I spent 5 days and nights in one of the most poverty stricken villages in the country called St. Michelle. There, I was able to lend a helping hand in re- building severely damaged structures due to violent storms, help provide medical aid to the many villagers who were in desperate need of care, and assist in feeding outreach/water purification projects for the village’s children.

It is very unfortunate that a country so close to the U.S. could be in such bad shape. It was not until I walked in their shoes, that I realized all of the simple luxuries we sometimes take for granted including free education, safety, and security.   There is so much potential and opportunity for the many children being born into these circumstances everyday thru outreach, education, encouragement, and love.

My heart was forever changed by the beautiful smile on each of the children’s faces that was there to greet me every morning when I woke up. I came back to the United States refreshed & sincerely humbled with a different outlook on life.

Through my photo slideshow I hope the smiles on the beautiful faces of these young vibrant souls move you as much as it moved me.
