Sponsored Athlete Kacie Wallace Paddles For The Coastline

Posted by: Ursula Zamora on Friday, June 07, 2013

Tomorrow, June 8 is World Oceans Day and two paddle boarders will take to their boards and paddle up the North Carolina coast starting at the southernmost point of the state.

With over 12,000 miles of coastline, Kacie Wallace (R) and Kimberly Sutton (L) will paddle in partnership with Ocean Recovery Alliance and YOLO Board to bring attention and help eliminate or reduce the use of single-use plastics that eventually end up polluting our waterways.  Plastics are convenient for their “disposability” however once deposited in a bin they are not gone.  They litter waterways and damage delicate ecosystems-killing wildlife that call the waterways home.

Kacie and Kimberly will paddle about 40 miles per day along the North Carolina coast northward until they reach Virginia.  As Sponsored Athletes through YOLO Board, Kacie and Kimberly are stocked with Raw Meal, Raw Protein, reusable shaker cups and a variety of food bars to keep them in top form for the journey.

Kacie and Kimberly will document and share the beauty of the coastline from their vantage point to help show everyone why protection and preservation of the coastline is the key.  They will also work with marinas and parks along the route to enlist their help to keep the North Carolina coast free of harmful debris and encourage all visitors to the coast to Reduce-Reuse-Recycle all plastics.

We look forward to sharing photos and stories from Kacie and Kimberly along their route here on the blog, on Facebook and on Twitter as much as we can on their journey.
