Katie Mackey Runs for the Win at the Falmouth Mile

Posted by: Garden of Life on Monday, August 26, 2013

One of the highlights of her season, Katie Mackey ran for the win in the historic Falmouth Mile on August 10 in Falmouth, MA.  Held the evening before the Falmouth Road Race, Katie said that the race was “slow and strategic…coming down to a 59 second final 400 meters where Katie crossed the finish to win!

Started in 1995, the New Balance Falmouth Mile is a companion to the Falmouth Road Race.  Taking place at Falmouth High Schools track, the Mile is actually three events:  one for invited world-class milers, one for Massachusetts high school athletes and one for invited wheel chair athletes.

A week prior to the Falmouth race, Katie could be found in Ghent, Belgium where she ran in an 800m race.  The weather conditions were less than ideal with a lot of wind.  Thanks to two of Katie’s competitors Nicole Sifuentes and D Cummins, the competition in the home stretch helped push Katie to the finish line.  She set a personal record, however she looks forward to getting back to her next set of races in Europe to try to break her time barrier of 2:02 that has been tough to beat.
