Vanilla Chai Fig Smoothie

Debra Garner is a raw food chef, a food blogger, and a Garden of Life Raw Trendsetter. Most importantly, she is a wife and mother of 7! Debra blogs about keeping her large family healthy with fresh organic food (raw, cooked and vegan dishes) as well as her weight loss goals. She also works with churches and individuals to teach them about healthy, organic eating. Her delicious smoothie recipe combines two Garden of Life favorites – Raw Protein Vanilla Spiced Chai and Raw Organics Chia Seeds!


Chia Gel recipe:


1 cup of Garden of Life Raw Organics Chia seeds

6 cups of water

1/2 gallon sized Mason jar with lid


Pour seeds into jar and add water. Stir well, put on lid and shake. Sit on the counter for a few hours and shake it well about once an hour. Transfer to the refrigerator and it will keep for a week. We always run out before it spoils, so it could possibly keep longer. (I heard somewhere that it would keep for 2 weeks!) You can use in smoothies or take a shot of the chia gel for added fiber and extra energy.



Vanilla Chai Fig Smoothie


(Makes roughly four 16 ounce servings)


4 bananas (frozen or at room temperature, your choice)

4-5 frozen figs (I buy them when in season, let them get really ripe and then I freeze them. You can use dried figs if you like, soaking them in some warm water for about 15 minutes before making smoothies)

1/4 cup soaked almonds

1 cup chia seed gel

3 scoops of Garden of Life Raw Vanilla Spiced Chai Protein powder

Dash of pumpkin pie spice

1 tbsp of raw honey

Put all ingredients in the blender and add water to the top of blender carafe. Blend until smooth. Enjoy. This is a favorite with my 4 sons!
