Ultramarathon runner Joseph Gray's Summer Nutrition Program

Posted by: Ursula Zamora on Tuesday, July 03, 2012

This year I have made a few changes to my diet, mostly in part to now representing Garden of Life! The changes I have made lean more toward cutting out bad desserts and unhealthy recovery foods and replacing them with products such as Raw Protein for post workout and Raw Resveratrol to enhance antioxidant support during intense training blocks.

Studies suggest that Resveratrol can improve energy production within the cellular walls also known as the “engine” aka Mitochondria. So far the changes I have made in my supplementation and diet have been successful. Pictured below I am leading the pack and eventually crossed the finish line for my 4th consecutive victory at the Rhody Run 12k in Port Townsend, WA.

This was a special win for me particularly because no other athlete has won the race four times in a row in the long history of the event. As any athlete will vouch, it’s very difficult to repeat in any major competition. The summer season of racing is now in full effect and I have a summer full of competitions in Europe and America. I will attempt to win my fourth consecutive (current record holder with 3 so far) North American and Central American (NACAC) Mountain Running Championship in July and then I’m off to Switzerland to compete in a few International Mountain Running races as well as put in some miles on the Swiss Alps on some of my favorite trails in the World!

Found this article very inspiring. I'm training for a half marathon in September as a fund raising event for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I was diagnosed with lymphoma March 2011, went through 6 rounds of chemo last summer, and had my chemo port pulled in September 2011. The half marathon is like a little victory dance for me this year. I'm planning on adding more Garden of Life products to my eating plan as I continue training for the event.
