Spiced Apples With Golden Flaxseeds and Walnuts

Posted by: Rhonda Price on Friday, October 11, 2013

After overdosing on “all things pumpkin” the last few weeks, I decided to switch to apples for a different “fall harvest” flavor. Baked apples are always delicious, but adding flaxseeds is a great way to boost your omega 3 levels. For this recipe, I used Garden of Life’s Organic Golden Flaxseed and RAW Organic Antioxidant Fruit Blend because it has these fantastic benefits:

  • Naturally Sweet and Delicious – No Sugar Added
  • Promotes Healthy Digestion and Regularity
  • Promotes Heart, Breast and Brain Health

These flaxseeds are loaded with antioxidant fruits and berries—all Non-GMO, pesticide free and with no added sugar or preservatives. This is one dessert you can serve to your kids and not worry about them bouncing off the walls later from too much of a sugar spike!

4 organic apples

½ cup raw organic honey

½ cup apple cider

1 T Garden of Life Organic Golden Flaxseed and RAW Antioxidant Fruit Blend

1 cup finely chopped walnuts

¾ cup raisins (regular or golden)

1 tsp. cinnamon

1 tsp. nutmeg

To prepare:

Combine apple cider, honey, and spices in a saucepan and cook over low heat for 10 minutes. Core apples, remove seeds, and slice into thin ½” slices. Lightly grease a baking dish and place ¼ of the apple slices in the bottom. Add ¼ of the walnuts and raisins. Continue adding layers until all ingredients have been used. Pour honey mixture over the top and sprinkle with the flaxseeds.

Cover dish with foil and bake for 30-35 minutes at 375 degrees. Serve warm with vanilla frozen yogurt (optional) or whipped cream.
