The Benefits of Coconut

Posted by: Garden of Life on Friday, March 14, 2014

For many years health food lovers have known about the benefits of the coconut. Commonly called the “Tree of Life” it is also one of the first foods of humankind. In terms of superfoods, coconut ranks at the top. What other vegan food provides water, meat, oil, fiber and sugar?

Coconut water not only tastes delicious, but also is full of enzymes and electrolytes much needed by the body. Also, very popular today is coconut oil – not only due to its amazing properties as a high-heat cooking oil, but this amazing oil is incredibly healthy to consume in it’s raw state. Known as a healthy saturated fat, coconut oil is also anti-bacterial, anti-microbial and among a long list of health benefits has been proven to boost thyroid function further helping to increase energy, metabolism and overall endurance.

The meat of the coconut is so versatile it can be made into dozens of creative recipes, the most exciting of which is coconut bacon.  That’s right, coconut, when done right smells and tastes like bacon! What? How is this possible?  Well, for one thing, it is full of saturated fat just like animal bacon, but unlike animal fat, it is full of MCTs (Medium Chain Triglycerides), aka MCFA (Medium Chain Fatty Acids). This is fat desperately needed by the body. It is so important that the second highest source after coconut is mother’s milk.  Coconut meat is also rich is soluble fiber, in fact, it is the best soluble fiber you can get, so the more coconut fiber you eat, the better your digestion will be.

Another amazing gift from the coconut is coconut sugar. Made from the flowers of the coconut, it is a delicious low-glycemic sugar that provides a full spectrum of minerals and amino acids that you just can’t get from other sugars.

All of these ingredients from the Coconut (minus the water) are now available in one tasty gourmet product: CocoBacon® by our friends at Coconut Organics®. This is a product that delivers the best Coconut Bacon you can buy made from all-organic functional ingredients. It has lightly toasted coconut meat for the fat and fiber, raw organic coconut oil for the MCT rich oil, and low-glycemic coconut sugar to give it that yummy bacony sweetness that just makes your mouth water.  I like to eat it as a snack, but I also use it as a topping on salad, gluten-free pizza, and steamed veggies. It tastes so good, hard to believe it’s so healthy. Finally, a guilt free vegan and gluten free snack food that delivers healthy bacon to the people. All hail the power of the coconut!
