Recently we had been wondering if there were any services available where you could get healthy meals delivered that took all the guess work out of healthy eating at home. That's when we remembered a company called Plated that we had seen at BlogHer '13 last summer in Chicago. We checked out the website and decided to give them a try.
Each week they have a variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian plate options for up to 4-6 people. You can choose as many as you would like for the specific shipping dates they have set. I had chosen 2 plates each of Citrus Chicken with Soba Noodles and Marinated Flank Steak with Radicchio.
The box came on the day specified and each ingredient was neatly packed and labeled inside a cooler box. The veggies & condiments on one side, meats on the other with reusable ice packs keeping them cold on their quick journey to my doorstep. The box also includes a great 8 x 10 recipe card that gives step by step instructions on how to put your meals together. Because I have a family of four, I made both plate offerings for one meal to give them both a try.
Both proteins needed to be marinated. I prepared the marinades per the recipe card for the minimum amount of time specified. In my opinion, I should have let them marinate for much longer to absorb the flavors, but they still tasted great. The sides were also easy to prepare following the instructions.
My preference was the Citrus Chicken because I love the Asian flavors in the marinade and the noodle dressing. The flank steak was wonderful as well; unfortunately radicchio is not a favorite in my house and probably would be replaced with another type of side. Though, the dressing for the radicchio was amazing and will definitely be made again for another meal!
We also had one of our sponsored athletes who is a guardian to two family members as well as a full time professional and training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu athlete with not a lot of time to meal plan, shop and cook meals test these out for us as well. He also received the citrus chicken with soba noodles as well as a coffee spicy rub steak with panzanella.
He said, "I really liked how easy and fun it was to make these dishes. They are very detailed but you do have to like cooking because the steps can be long at times. The quality of the meats and veggies are top notch and the kids really enjoyed them as well. The coffee rubbed steak was great, but the chipotle in the rub was too much for the kids. I do have to say the best part of this is the fact that I could never think these things up, but then you have the recipe cards that you can keep and buy the ingredients to make the meals again! I honestly loved both dishes and the flavors were amazing."
