Joe Gray Becomes Part of History With a Win at the Northeast Delta Dental Mt. Washington Road Race

Posted by: Ursula Zamora on Monday, June 23, 2014

Joseph Gray dominated the men’s race in the 7.6-mile Northeast Delta Dental Mount Washington Road Race in Pinkham Notch, NH on June 21.

Runners race to the summit of Mt Washington-the highest peak in the northeastern United States. Joe has competed in the Road Race for several years, finishing in the top ten with 2014 bringing his hard-earned first place win in this grueling all-uphill race.

Joe finished in 59 minutes 9 seconds making him only the eighth runner to finish under an hour and the second fastest American in the history of the race.  Per the Mt Washington Auto Road website, it takes cars an average of 30 minutes to drive the 7.6 mile road at a 12% grade.  If you’ve ever run or walked on a treadmill, you know how it feels when you get to the standard 10% for a home machine (up to 15% for some commercial machines) so you can imagine the strength and skill needed to run this race.

“I felt pretty good the whole way,” he said. “I knew we’d have a good strong race. I figured I could win it, but I knew it was going to be a barn-burner.”

Congratulations to Joe on a spectacular finish!
