Testing Pinterest Finds: Non-Toxic Silver Cleaner

Posted by: Ursula Zamora on Monday, October 01, 2012

I have always loved silver jewelry, and have a husband who gives me different silver pieces for various holidays and celebrations on behalf of himself and my kids. I also have beautiful pieces that I’ve collected over the years that I cherish.

I remember growing up getting the stinky, chemically silver polish and having to use that with silver pieces in our home and jewelry I had. Thanks to the link from Stuff Grandma Made on Pinterest, I found this very easy eco-friendly way to keep my pieces shiny.

It’s as simple as lining a pan with foil, adding a handful of baking soda and a dash of salt, gently placing the jewelry in the pan touching the foil directly (and other pieces of jewelry) and pouring freshly boiled water on top. You simply let it sit for at least 5 minutes, then wipe dry or if it’s still a little icky, using an old toothbrush to gently scrub the pieces clean-I used it for the necklace chains and items with small jewels or crystals to get around some of the smaller crevices.

And voila! Sparkly jewelry!
