A Multivitamin a Day...

Great news for men who take a daily multivitamin-a clinical study published on October 17, 2012 showed daily multivitamin use in men was linked to a decrease their total risk of cancer.

In a study of nearly 15,000 physicians over 50 with average daily multivitamin use between July 1997 and June 2011-some taking a multivitamin and some taking a placebo-showed the physicians taking the daily multivitamin decreased their total risk of cancer by 8%. The study also found that multivitamin use cut site-specific cancers (except for prostate cancer) by 12 percent.

“It does appear that there is a modest reduction in cancer among middle-aged and older men,” said Dr. J. Michael Gaziano, chief of the division of aging at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and a researcher at the VA Boston Healthcare System. “Even total mortality went in the right direction.”

The Physicians' Health Study II represents the only large-scale, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial testing the long-term effects of a common multivitamin in the prevention of chronic disease,” the authors write.

All of the physicians were in decent physical health with an average BMI of 26 and a minimal percentage smoked. By the end of the trial, more than two-thirds of the doctors continued the daily multivitamin regimen.

While this was one trial that studied males of good physical shape and excluded women, it is encouraging to see such a study being embraced by medical journals and mainstream media outlets such as NBC News that reported on the study on the 6:30pm evening newscast.

Encouraging news for regular multivitamin users and hopefully inspiring news to those who may not include a daily multivitamin in their daily health routine.

I'm looking for a multivitamin. You have so many products, I'm confused. I read your first book and passed it on. It is a wonderful, brave story. And I want to begin using more of your products, but I don't know how to whittle my choices down to a couple of basic ones. Thank you.
