Extraordinary Health Magazine: With all of the projects you have going on, is it challenging to juggle family responsibilities?
Alicia Silverstone: It’s definitely a balancing act, and I’m always re-prioritizing to make things work. Sometimes, I take on too much work, so I have to make sure we’re carving out time to live instead of running around like crazy people with impossible schedules.
Extraordinary Health Magazine: When you’re not working away from home, how do you like to spend time with your family?
Alicia Silverstone: Every Sunday, I go to the farmer’s market with my son, Bear and my husband, Christopher. It’s usually a two-hour event that starts with me picking out our groceries while Bear runs around with a bowl of strawberries in his hand or eats tamales. He loves music and stops at every music person along the way, including a cool Rastafarian who plays the drums.On other days, we’ll go to the beach together or stop by one of our favorite spots such as chef Matthew Kenney’s MAKE restaurant. We also go to the Farm Sanctuary so he can touch and connect with the animals, or we’ll go on hikes together. We have a lot of lovely, fun times! But honestly, every single day is the best with Bear—waking up, snuggling and getting him fed and dressed—I just love our everyday life together.
Extraordinary Health Magazine: How do you make sure you’re getting the most out of your family time together?
Alicia Silverstone: For me, I think it’s because I realize this time is so fleeting. I want to enjoy every moment of it, so I try to be very mindful and patient. I don’t want to rush through anything with Bear! If we’re on a walk and he wants to sit down and play in the dirt, I want to be able stop and let him do that without worrying that I need to be somewhere else. I’m always working towards balance and my healthy diet not only makes me feel great, but allows me to be patient and present and I can manage life so much better because of it.
Extraordinary Health Magazine: How do you feel knowing that you are part of making the first Certified USDA Organic, Non-GMO Project Verified multivitamin made from food?
Alicia Silverstone: I’m so excited! For years I’ve been looking for a vitamin that didn’t exist. It was so frustrating to read all the chemicals that were used in “healthy” products. It wasn’t just the synthetic binders and fillers such as magnesium stearate that turned me off. It was knowing that the entire pill started off as a chemical replica of the great vitamins found only in food. Why couldn’t they just start with the food itself? That’s what I wanted and now, I finally have it with mykind Organics. We start with food and end with food.
Extraordinary Health Magazine: When did you start paying more attention to the quality of the vitamins and supplements you were taking and the ingredients in them?
Alicia Silverstone: When I got pregnant, I started to look at vitamins differently and realized they can be the insurance you need to get enough of the proper nutrients necessary during this time. It was always an ordeal for me to find a good “quality” vitamin. I started examining all the ingredients in these supplements and noticed there were lots of chemical additives and fillers that were definitely not food!
