5 Foolproof Ways to Have the Most Productive Summer Ever

School is out. Summer is here. It’s officially freezing in your office compared to the melting temperature outside. Chances are, you have found yourself daydreaming about summer vacation during weekly work hours. It’s hard not to with so many summer distractions: projects slow down, many people are out of office, and a general sense of a “summer slump” begins to sink in.

We all experience this at some point during the summer. However, this season doesn’t need to be spent contemplating that burning desire to drop all motivation and buy that one-way ticket. Here are some tips we put together at Garden of Life to help you stay productive during the summer despite the beaches calling your name.

  1. Sweat it out.

It’s no secret that exercise improves your physical fitness, but studies show that regular exercise changes the brain to improve your memory, and thinking skills. Several studies also suggest exercise improves your mood, sleep and reduces stress and anxiety[1]. Some great summer fitness workouts to try are Pilates, Zumba, yoga, cycling, kickboxing or even hitting the pool. These can all be fun, social ways to work out and make some new friends!

  1. Book nerd status.

This is the perfect opportunity to start a book from your reading list that you’ve been meaning to get to over the years. Create room in your schedule to crack open the spine of that book before it hits theaters. Reading has so many positive benefits: mental stimulation, stress reduction and vocabulary expansion – just to name a few.  Make it fun and join a book club at your local library or grab some friends and start your own!

  1. The little things.

If there was ever a time to check all those things off your never-ending to-do list you’ve been neglecting, the time is now. Finish working on your budget. Take that poetry class. Sign up for a marathon. Volunteer at your favorite local charity. Make a list of all the things you really want to do. Prioritize them and make it happen.

  1. Set some goals.

We can easily get stuck in our day-to-day routine and lose sight of our long-term goals. Where do you see yourself five years from now? Are you taking necessary measures each day to get there? Setting goals is what keeps us motivated and gives a sense of accomplishment once we reach the finish line.

Make a list of all the things you want to achieve and keep it somewhere you can refer to it weekly. Once you have completed something off your list, cross it off and reward yourself with those new shoes you’ve wanted to keep your motivation strong.

  1. Rest and relax.

We have a little mantra we like to say around the office: NSTAASE. It means there is “No Such Thing As A Supplement Emergency.” Of course, it’s important to take our careers seriously, but it is equally as important to take time for ourselves, too. You can’t give your best at work if you’re not taking the proper time for yourself. You don’t need to go on an international vacation to do this either (even though that sounds nice). You can go for a weekend hike or spend the day at the beach. Do the things you love to keep yourself feeling rejuvenated and complete.

Take some time to make this summer the most productive summer ever. That way, when the cold weather rolls back around you are relaxed and ready for whatever comes your way.
