PASSIONFLOWER

Passiflora incarnate

The passionflower (Passiflora incarnate) is a perennial climbing vine native to the southeastern United States and extensively grown throughout Europe. The leaves, stems and flowers have been widely used in both Native American and European folk medicine for their relaxing, calming effect. Modern studies to have shown passionflower may provide support for mood and occasional insomnia by increasing levels of a chemical called gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the brain. GABA lowers the activity of some brain cells, making you feel more relaxed.
