The schisandra berry comes from a climbing vine native to cold regions bordering China and Russia. This exotic fruit has a very complex flavor, leading to its Chinese name, wu wei zu, – or five-flavored berry (sweet, sour, bitter, pungent and salty simultaneously). Chinese medicine has long relied on schisandra for its benefits, especially to increase energy, fight off age-related issues, and even as an aphrodisiac. The varied use of this berry is because it’s a powerful adaptogen, with the unique ability to promote both mental and physical energy while it supports healthy management of stress and fatigue. Schisandra is particularly effective in helping to deal with adrenal stress.
