Being a Force for Good
“B Lab is excited to welcome Garden of Life to the growing community of B Corps,” said Jay Coen Gilbert, co-founder of B Lab. “As a leading Dietary Supplement brand dedicated to Certified Organic and non-GMO project verified products, Garden of Life is in a unique position to advance awareness of socially and environmentally responsible business practices, supply chain traceability, and public transparency with accountability within the supplement industry.”
Certified B Corporation Garden of Life® is proud to join a gr owing community of Certified B Corporations. From the very beginning, we’ve been on a single mission—Empowering Extraordinary Health®. That purpose runs like a thread throughout our products, our consumer education, our charitable efforts and our company culture.
What is a Certified B Corporation?
B Corporation is a new kind of corporate entity that’s legally allowed to consider social good when making business decisions! As a B Corp you consider the community, employees and the social impact when making business decisions instead of just bottom line and t op line benefits. B Corp certification looks at the business as a whole, with the goal of recognizing companies using the power of business to solve social and environmental problems.
Who “Certifies” B Corporations?
B Lab is a nonprofit organization that certifies leading companies worldwide as “B Corps.” This is the ONLY certification that covers the entire company; it’s not a product certification or a facility certification, alone.
Who are the B Corporations?
We’re honored to be part of a thriving and growing international community of Certified B Corporations in over 120 industries and 40 countries. We all share the same unifying goal: to redefine success in business. You can learn more about our certification, the B Corp movement and find a full listing of Certified B Corp companies at bcorporation.net.
We are the leading brand in natural products focused on true traceabilty though independent third-party certifications including Certified USDA Organic and Non-GMO Verified products.
Becoming a B Corp was so appealing to us since it’s a third-party certification for our whole company, not just our products. To undergo the process of certification, where every facet of our business is scrutinized to ensure we are walking the talk, is a very rigorous but rewarding process.
What is Covered in a B Labs Audit for Certification?
To become a B Corp you must meet rigorous standards of:
SOCIAL PRACTICES – e.g. ethical sourcing of raw materials and fair manufacturing, charitable giving and participation and company culture are all certified as best-in-class.
ENVIRONMENTAL PERFORMANCE – e.g. raw material sources are organic and non-gmo, manufacturing uses best-in-class energy and waste practices, home office is LEED GOLD certified, packaging is recyclable and uses recycled and biodegradable materials, etc.
ACCOUNTABILITY – e.g. corporate governance and oversight are socially and environmentally motivated, third-party auditing of financial, HR and other practices, etc.
TRANSPARENCY – e.g. everything from raw material sourcing, to production, to company’s books and practices are available for view and third-party inspection, etc.
A B Corp audit is very in-depth. The B Lab team reviews every aspect of a business from it’s employee handbook to the sourcing of raw materials to manufacturing. B Lab investigates sustainability practices including recyclable packaging, sustainable papers and inks, as well as corporate offices (ours is LEED GOLD cer tified) and sustainable energy commitment(we offset 100% of our energy with Green-e Wind Power).
Once the B Lab auditors complete their task, they actually build the principles of a For-Benefit company into the company’s charter. (That’s right–we actually amended our corporate filings with the State of Delaware to reflect that we mean business—B Corp business—for the long haul).
