Be Smart. Choose Non-GMO
Choosing Non-GMO is smart. It benefits you, your family, plants and animals as well as our earth and our future.
NON-GMO IS SMART FOR YOU:
You probably already know to avoid genetically modifi ed organisms (GMOs). They’re the product of genetic engineering that splices together DNA from different species, creating combinations of plant, animal, bacterial and viral genes. Virtually all commercial GMOs are engineered to withstand direct application of herbicide and/or to produce an insecticide.
To date, the only feeding study done on humans and GMOs showed that GMOs survive and remain inside the digestive tract. The study suggests that GMOs also trigger body-wide infl ammatory responses.
NON-GMO IS SMART FOR OUR FAMILIES:
GM corn and cotton both produce a potentially dangerous chemical called Bt-toxin to kill insects. A 2011 study found Bt-toxin in the blood of 93 percent of pregnant women tested and in 80 percent of their unborn babies.
NON-GMO IS SMART FOR PLANTS’ AND ANIMALS’ WELL-BEING:
The data shows that GMOs do not increase yields, drought tolerance, enhance nutrition or provide any other benefit to plants, animals or humans.
NON-GMO IS SMART FOR OUR EARTH AND FOR OUR FUTURE:
The data shows that GMO produce provides less nutrition and is more vulnerable to climate change, pests and disease. Since GMOs are more vulnerable to climate change, pests and disease, that also makes GMOs a perfect storm for food insecurity.
BE SMART. CHOOSE NON-GMO.
The Non-GMO Project is a non-profi t organization to help preserve a Non-GMO food supply and give consumers an informed choice. They offer North America’s only third-party verifi cation program for Non-GMO. Find out more at: www.nongmoproject.org
