My family, friends and I recently attended the Special Olympics Florida Palm Beach County Summer Games. Hundreds of local Special Olympians competed in track and field, bocce, volleyball, tennis, cycling and softball throw events at John I. Leonard High School.

Originally, our group made the trip to Lake Worth to support a few students we knew competing. The moment we arrived and walked up to the track, our buddy and Olympic Heights senior Derek Morgan crossed the finish line to take first place in the 100M race. The entire crowd cheered, smiles spread across all of our faces, and we decided to make an entire day out of it!

We visited the gym to check out the volleyball matches, then to the tennis courts and the softball fields. As a Garden of Life employee, I made sure to have some products on hand to share with the athletes. They were thrilled to receive Garden of Life drawstring bags, mykind Organics Vitamin C Organic Spray Orange-Tangerine, Organic Super Seed® Whole Food Fiber Apple Cinnamon bars, plush bacteria, RAW Fit Vanilla and Organic Plant Protein packets!

After such an enjoyable, rewarding experience, we decided to establish the Special Olympics Palm Beach County Summer Games as a tradition. Next year, we’re recruiting even more friends and coworkers to sign up as volunteers!
