Piper nigrum

Black pepper is the fruit of the black pepper plant from the Piperaceae family. The active ingredient piperine causes its spiciness. It is native to Kerala, the southern state of India. Since ancient times, black pepper is one of the most widely traded spices in the world.
Black pepper has been shown to increase oral absorption and bioavailability of certain herbs, especially curcumin, an active component found in turmeric. Traditionally, black pepper has been used to support the circulation of blood, to increase the flow of saliva, and to stimulate digestion.
