PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL — Garden of Life, the leader in whole food, science-based, nutrition, has earned the prestigious Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Certification. Headquartered in Palm Beach Gardens, the company was also honored with the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) South Florida’s 2015 Most Outstanding LEED Commercial Interior (CI) Project. LEED is a green building certification program recognizing best-in-class companies committed to promoting renewable, clean energy and using resources efficiently. President Brian Ray said Garden of Life (www.gardenoflife.com) worked with sustainability consultants The Spinnaker Group on Building Commissioning and LEED Consulting.

“Building a LEED corporate office was a natural fit with our mission,” said Ray. “We have a passion for health and wellness and wanted to extend that philosophy to creating a healthy environment for our employees.”
To qualify for LEED certification, a building must comply with environmental laws and regulations, occupancy scenarios, site boundaries, building permanence and area-to-site ratios. A LEED performance credit system allocates points based on potential environmental impacts and human benefits of each credit.

Garden of Life’s headquarters boasts numerous amenities and an energy efficient infrastructure. Features incorporated into the construction and interior design include: the use of recycled and regionally resourced materials; low VOC materials, including Greenguard Certified Furniture and Furnishings; low flow plumbing fixtures, energy saving lighting fixtures, optimal building ventilation, ENERGY STAR® equipment and appliances, heating and cooling provided by high-efficiency water source heat pumps and use of non-toxic green cleaning methods.

Designed by Glidden Spina + Partners, the commercial interior space includes a modern business lounge that provides natural lighting, outdoor views and convenient access to recycling areas. To promote wellness for all employees, the office features a fitness center with state-of-the-art exercise equipment and full-service locker rooms. Employees and visitors can also take advantage of bicycle racks and preferred parking spaces for low-emitting, fuel-efficient vehicles and carpoolers to encourage alternative forms of transportation.
“We’re honored to be a member of the growing community of businesses devoted to conscientious and sustainable growth,” said Ray. “We look forward to setting new performance goals for our social and environmental impact.”
“In our industry, we are always seeking innovative, original and sustainable ideas for our business, so it was vital we take that same approach for our office space,” said Teresa Miller, Vice President of Human Resources. “We made the commitment to do everything in our power to attain the LEED Gold standard, and we’re proud we were able to achieve it.”
